Look at history!
Pakistan and India, as well as Bangladesh, are the same people, they were the same state for thousands of years, until British decided to step in. When the Hindu people throw them out, the British intelligence provoked a civil war and the three states were created! Thus, in the last 5 decades there are the problems between them, especially between Pakistan and India!
I think that the problems continue because there is outside "help"! Without it, the two sister countries would have resolved all matters and would not need to fight for anything!

Perhaps they could survive; of course they know what's going on in the world, but if the US pulled out right now, it would be a setup for al-Queda to move in. They already cross back and forth across the Pakistan-Afghani border. Perhaps India would be willing to help Pakistan out is the US presence is resented? Anyone from India want to comment?
