i need to check my fluid the trans will sometimes go into third geaqr when i put it in drive or it will start off in first geaqr but wont upshift anyone know what could cause also the check engine light is on

A lot of the new cars don't have transmission dipsticks. They have a light that comes on telling when to change the filter and fluid. You need to find out how many quarts it takes to service it, repair any leaks and change the fluid and filter. If it doesn't leak, it should be fine until the next fluid change. Your probably going to have someone run a diagnostic scan on the trans to find the problem.

The cap that you remove to pour the transmission fluid has the level indicator on it. You can't see it until you remove the cap. It is best to check the fluid after it has been running. We have 5 vehicles in this family, that's where the fluid indicator is on all of them, Hope I helped. It could be a vacuum hose, low fluid, needs a filter change (quite a job)!! You should have someone check it if you keep driving like that you won't have a transmission at all!

I have a 97 Jetta and there is no dip stick I have to go to the dealer to have it checked
