You know the deal. Relatives visiting from out of state, coming to see Disneyland. They want me to come down from LA to take them to a "cool" place to eat. I need someplace family friendly, mid range pricing, impressive to mid-westerners. Anaheim or Orange... maybe in the Grove or something.... What can you tell me?

Take them to Downtown Disney. It has several restaurants, including Rainforest Cafe, House of Blues and ESPN zone. After dinner you can walk around and get some dessert or shop. Parking is free at Downtown Disney. Here's their website

Go straight up Harbor (the street Disneyland is on) north into Fullerton. There's a brilliant Italian place on the right hand side as you near the downtown area. It's called "Il Ghiotto"

I looked up the specs for ya... here you go. Great atmosphere, classy, not ridiculously priced. It is sort of an "upscale" atmosphere, but they might be just what you want if you are looking for a place that will impress. And it's good food, and close to Disneyland. :)

Knott's Chicken Dinner restaurant is a good choice. The chicken is amazing. The restaurant is located on the grounds of Knott's Berry Farm, which isn't too far from Disneyland (10-15 minutes?).

They have that Disney downtown, but that is kinda upper priced. But if you go out towards Harbour, South towards the beach(not back to the 5), I usually like to take my out-of-towners to Joe's crab Shack. It is about 1-2 miles south on the right hand side. Loads of fun, medium priced, and if someone is having a b-day, it is great. The whole menu isn't just seafood, also. Have Fun!

Not too far down on Harbor going North is the Spaghetti Factory...its in Fullerton but oh my its good. You get a lot of food for a looooow price. I have eight kids and we can afford to eat there. They have great service too plus its in an old train station where some of the tables are in a caboose...its great

Depending on how much you want to impress them and how much you have to spend, think about one of the dinner shows around Disneyland. Medieval Times and Pirates Dinner Adventure do decent food and are a fun way to spend an evening.

Your whole family could scope out Downtown Disney (next to Disneyland).. they've got tons of restaurants with different types of food and then everybody could make a collective decision

I took my Ohio relatives to Mideival Times, I think its right on Beach Blvd. Even their college aged, techie son had a good time. It is reasonably priced, the jousting is entertaining and the food is okay. But, since they didn't have anything like it in Ohio they thought the whole experience was fun.
