Traditionally a male dancer is called a "danseur."

Since ballerina actually refers to the principal female dancer of a company, the real male equivalent of "ballerina" is the "premier danseur", or the primary dancer in a company.

A male dancer is just called that -- a male dancer or a ballet dancer. That's all Rudolph Nuryev was ever called.
A prima ballerina is the lead female dancer in a company, and the next group of top dancers (those who do solos) are also called ballerinas. Then there is the corps de ballet -- the rest of the dancers, who provide the background for the main dancers.
As there are so few male dancers, most of them have opportunities for solos, pas de deux etc. that women in the corps de ballet have to fight for!

"there isn't any passable answer to this one. Theoretically, even although the Italian "ballerina" ability merely "woman dancer," in reality a imperative woman dancer is meant to be said as a ballerina. If that restriction were universally talked about, then the nearest male equivalent often is the French premièr danseur ("first dancer"). yet in prepare, human beings use ballerina to communicate over with any woman ballet dancer, and if so all you may say is "dancer" for the male. i think you'd be pedantic and use the Italian masculine type ballerino, yet human beings probable does no longer understand you and, worse, are probable to mis-listen the be conscious as "ballerina," which could lead on to countless confusion

A danseur, the French masculine word for dancer.

From personal experience, I've also heard them referred to simply as ballet dancers.
