Its the stigma that society has bestowed on these women. They still are the workhorses for the family. They uphold the family virtues, love and respect their parents, care for them, and want to create a better tomorrow for the family and themselves.
Look at what the men are upto. Gambling, drinking, drugs,
easylife, living off the earnings of their spouces.
How long would women suffer that? Is there no tolerance limit for them? Dont they too have a dream to live life the way they want?
And does the American world give justification to the African Women as they do to their own?
That it the precise reason for the African American women to avoid marriage and hassels that follow.
My highest respects to their decesion. May God bless them.

African Americans have only been free from slavery a little less than two-hundred years. The impact of slavery has yet to be eradicated from our current culture and society. African Americans were breeded like animals. There were men, selected by the slave owners (often strong, tall, healthy, well-built) to reproduce with many women to produce children who would grow up to be slaves and keep up the trend. This "breeding process" is evident in many African American households now. This degradation impacted African American culture much more than any one standing on the outside looking in can even imagine.

I'm a 26 year old African American male. I've been with my African American female for 12years. We are not married nor do we plan on getting married until we both finish school. We made a committment along time ago that this would be the best way for us to go. We don't want a divorce on our track record so therefore we are taking our time. I personally know alot of African American males, that are educated, who are looking for a wife. But given the way society labels us it is hard to find the right one. Mainly because people say the are looking for the right one but really they are looking for RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

Wow!!! All I can truly say is wow, look at how the white ppl still cant stand us strong African Americans,Hell, why do yall hate us, it was yall ancestors who brought us over here so if you're gonna be mad at someone be mad at yourselves, trifling *** tricks.
Anyways I think a lot of african american women don't marry b/c they've been hurt by past relationships, or have been in a home w/o a positive male role model, and once they get into their independent state of mind, we men can basically hang it up. I'm not saying that women shouldn't ne independent b/c I want my daughter to be independent, but in becoming independent shouldn't mean put a 6 foot wall around your heart.
Its one thing to be independent, but its another to be lonely and independent.

First off, to answer the question, I believe black women are too busy working toward their financial goals. That's the main reason, in my opinion, why black women aren't married.
Now to answer all the ludicrous comments made by these three white people:
1. Einstein said: "No idea, maybe because of a combination of two factors- smoking crack and white girls being more attractive than black usually. "
This was funny, but let's be real, you wouldn't have the balls to say it in front of a room full of black women. So stop being what I'd like to call, an Internet thug, which is basically a bad *** on the Net but a straight b*tch in person.
2. Nude Chef said: "because most african american male are shot dead in gang wars or something similar before they are old enough to get married "
Have you ever been to the ghetto, yet alone spoken with black men or women? My guess would be no. I'm black, been around the world, don't smoke, drink, or own a gun. Oh, and I know many other black men exactly like myself—better even. Point I'm making? Don't post a comment if it's filled with stupidity.
3. Mud said: "It is harder to get welfare if you are married. Oh shut up you know it's true. Someone posted earlier that more white women are on welfare then black women. To that I say .HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH... WHATEVER. Go into the welfare department offices and you will see few poor white people and MANY black women. I have to go into human services often with my job so I know. "
Mud, your reasoning is illogical. Go back and check statistics. There are a lot more white people in this country than there are blacks. Trust me, more whites are on welfare. "Source: un-bias thinking, and intelligent research."
White people, have got to be the most clueless individuals on the face of this earth when it comes to understanding Black Culture. They think watching Snoop chillin' with Hef on MTV or seeing the latest ‘Hood movie gives them the proper education on our way of Life. It's sad, but it's so very true. Being an African American women I feel that we need to have ourselves together before we decide to put down a black man for his downfalls. There are some black women who have so many kids, sleep with so many men, and can't even tell you who the father is gut ther want to say so many negative comments about black men. Don't get me wrong. Some black men need to take care of their responsibilities as a man before they start criticizing black women. Getting women pregnant and not taking care of your kids is wrong and for that reason alone a black women would have every right to be negative to a black, not all black men. Black men and women need to work together to make marriage growing happy ending.

All of my friends, (girls) expect too much from marriage and the man. It is easier just to have the kids take him for support and have the state take care of them now a days. It is just taking the rest of the nation to catch up with how the Afro-American woman views. Also look at the up bringing from the area that they have been raised says volumes as well.
Once you look at the Afro_American male, today's woman wants more to depend on and they have a diffenent view on marrage and family then hers. No wonder they are better off raising their family and supporting them on her own.

I think it has alot to do with the type of men alot of African American women are associating with.Alot of the badboy types are not interested in marriage, but alot of us are interested in that type of man. Also alot of African American women need to reevaluate there standards. NOT LOWER, REEVAUATE them. A blue collar man that may not make alot financially may still have alot to offer a woman emotionally. We need to recognize and respect these brothers because they really are a dying species. Also are we sistas leaving men from other ethnicities out of our eqaution because of stereotypes and prejudices? I wonder.

My theory is that they have been so deeply hurt by men that once they have the courage to let go, it's difficult to trust again to become as intimate as they would like. So, they want the right persistent guy to come and sweep them off their feet, and be the man of their dreams. I do believe that for every woman, there is a man, only is it the "right" one? Hopefully, they won't turn Mr. Right away from being too cautious from the bad experience.

Maybe they are just waiting who knows and does it really matter unless your trying to find one to marry you? And I'm white and I don't hate blacks, to say i do kind of hurts. Nor do i want to be one, I've never been in a tanning bed, cause i don't want skin cancer thankyou. I love to learn about any culture, no matter what it is, but that's just me cause i find it interesting. And why do so many people hate people that are on welfare or assistance. I had to be on it for 6 months when my husband left me alone with our little girl and he was the sole source of income. I found a job and went off it but was very grateful for the help when i needed it.
