i live on a small farm, the snake i saw seem to be a perfect color and no markings of any kind, it was a short snake, but large around, not a snake you could hold in your hand, it moved very fast.

If you live in Oklahoma,Kansas,Iowa or Nebraska then you most certainly were looking at an Osage copperhead. It has a color morph that is Light brown above that turns into a bluish color on the belly. Not very long but can get to as thick as your wrist and they are fast.....they are venomous.
If on the other hand you are looking at something as big as your thumb or a little bigger and live else where....it would most likely be a eastern hognose. They also come in different color morphs.Kingsnake.com has a gallery that you can look in and its got a lot of the native snakes.
