Nolan Ryan is my favorite pitcher off all time, but I will have to go with Clemens. Ryan played on 4 expansion teams and had poor win/loss totals, but he also played forever and was a little less effective as time wore on. But Clemens on the other hand has been dominate for 20 years and is still going strong. There could be a strong case that Clemens may be one of the top 2 or 3 pitchers of all time, with only Walter Johnson on that list for sure.

Roger Clemens. 7 Cy Young awards speak for themselves.

However, there have been some outstanding pitchers during the modern era. Very difficult to answer.

I think Steve Carlton was the most dominating starting pitcher of his era. Dennis Eckersley was so good and so dependable for so long as a reliever.

that is fingers down Mariano Rivera. The durability he's maintained for the time of his occupation is unrivaled through absolutely everyone. it ought to correctly be argued that his maximum proper season became very last, on the age of 38 and a million.87 era and league premier 36 this season as a 39 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old prepare he's persevering with greatness in the course of the previous due degrees of his occupation. Trevor Hoffman is the all-time chief in saves, and has maintained greatness into his 40's, yet no the position close to the dominance Mariano Rivera has displayed. Rivera's 0.seventy seven era in a ultimate 117 occupation postseason innings makes him the #a million guy any manager would pick to call for contained in the 9th inning of the international sequence recreation 7. As for the finest of his occupation, %. any 3 consecutive seasons age 28 or later. His worst season as a closer became 2007 at the same time as he had a three.15 era and 30 saves that any team will be overjoyed to have. He bumped off all recommendations if a decline through embarrassing the league's hitters very last season. you are able to look by heritage at lots of the finished names in closers, yet you do not ought to look previous the guy on the mound contained in the 9th contained in the game in the present day. As enormous of a Yankee hater as i'm, I easily ought to comprehend greatness, and Mariano Rivera embodies that completely.
