I think they do it so the man won't feel bad. Also, not all women can achieve orgasm, so maybe they do it so they will seem "normal". (That doesn't necessarily mean they don't enjoy the sex BTW, it just means they didn't have an orgasm from it). Maybe they just aren't in the mood and just want it to be OVER!!! There could be many reasons and times for it. But I say KEEP IT REAL!!! Either he will step up his game, or understand that there may be reasons a female is not achieving an orgasm. The "why" and "when" depends on the situation. Sometimes there are times that women may want the intimacy, but the acutal orgasm just isn't what we want, so we will fake it so that we don't leave our partners thinking that they cannot please us (something that no one want to think or feel). Sometimes it just isn't doing it for us and to "get it over with" we will fake it so we can move onto afterplay, cuddling or a shower. With new partners there is sometimes the need to stroke their egos without trying to teach them how to please us, or sometimes the woman is just too shy to say, teach or explain their needs to even older partners.
Just becaue an orgasm is faked, doesn't always mean that the woman doesn't enjoy the sexual intimacy. Women's make up is a little different and our "O" will alot of times depend on our moods, so the why and when depends on the woman herself as well as individual situations.

We fake orgasms cause we know that sex is the way a men express their feelings for u...and if we didn't orgasm, we're just telling them that we're not impressed, but it's not like that at all with us.
Anyhow, we do it mainly cause we take a much longer time to orgasm than men do...and most men try to hold their orgasm till she orgasms first....when we feel we're way behind orgasmic levels, we fake it to allow him to release his tension, and make him feel good about himself.
Really, we do it for them. We don't do it cause we just wanna get it over with. At least not all the time....

Why? Loaded question...but there could be several reasons:
Stroke your ego.
Maybe she doesn't know her body enough to know how to make it happen &/or show you how to make it happen.
Maybe she's too embarrased/shy to show you how to make the big O happen for her.
Could be that whatever U're doing really isn't satisfying and she wants to get it over with.
