It depends on the couple and the man really. My husband proposed to me on Christmas eve. We were at home just me and him, the lights were dim except those of the Christmas tree and other holiday decorations. We were watching a movie and snuggled up next to each other with a glass of whine. Christmas Eve is when we first got together and it had been three years to the day since we began seeing each other. We always open one present each year that night then save the rest for Christmas morning. So when it came time to pick which one i wanted naturally i went for the one in the shape of a jewelry box. I began to carefully peel back the paper and when i opened it there sat a fake ring from a bubble gum machine. As i looked up in confusion there he sat in front of me on one knee with another box held out in front of me containing a beautiful engagement ring... the rest is history

most guys aren't naturally romantic, so if they do something elaborate it is rare. My hubby simply asked. I wouldn't want a big, public scene.
