I see smokers throw butts out of their car windows all the time. These butts are bad for the environment, and not biodegradable.
How hard is it too keep the butts in your car??

I see it too, I think its because to them it is easier and faster to just toss it out the window rather than putting it out in an ashtray. Smoking if bad for them, us and the enviroment, but they dont care so why would they care about tossing one out?

Okay, this is a very good question...I do smoke, and if I'm in the car, I will throw my butts out the window. When I'm anywhere else, I make sure to dispose of the butt properly (put it out and find garbage can). The reason we do this is 1) it's just a learned behavior that is somehow acceptable for smokers and 2) we don't want cigarette butts in our cars (stinks). I totally agree that this is a double standard. I have been advised that cigarette butts DO degrade and/or are picked up by street cleaners. If I'm in a rural area or at a park, I won't throw it out the window. I guess I have no good answer for you and no good excuses....smokers don't want the smell of cigarette butts in our cars and we prefer to throw them out....but I know this is seemingly pointless, since the average smoker already has clothes, upholstery, and their home smelling like an ashtray anyway. Sad but true. Just want to give you the honest answer from someone that knows.

Many people have no care for the environment or the well being of others. I get so sick of seeing butts all over the place and people smoking every where you go...yuck. I don't think we will ever be rid of smokers though. Thank God I never started!

For many years the filters on cigarettes have been made of biodegradable materials.
I do agree that it is a filthy habit and people should get pulled over for littering and fines should be high due to the possibility of unintentionally starting a fire.
I quit smoking 7 &1/2 years ago! Now the smell makes me sick. Can't believe I used to walk around smelling like that!

I don't know why we do that but I would like to apologize because I know it is inconsiderate and rude to throw them out like that. I put them in my pocket after putting them out when I am out somewhere and there is no ashtray to toss later. I know that is nasty but better than throwing on the ground. Although I do smoke myself I don't feel that smokers should enjoy more rights than others. You have just as much right to a polution free breath as I do to pollute mine. Sorry.

I think most do it out of habit or watching their family members doing it when they were young. Or they don't want the stale smell of cigarette in their cars (funny, isn't it?).
Many cities have littering laws and have been cracking down on cigerette butt throwers.
I freak out when someone throws the butt out the window and sparks fly on the oil slicked highway. I have this fear that the road catches on fire - I know this is not probable but it still freaks me out.

Many smokers are very rude. That is why I would support a ban on people smoking even in their own cars. Plus they start forest fires.

Well in Canada we have no damn rights anymore. I live in Toronto, and you cannot smoke in a bar or basically anywhere, but yet all these non-smokers ***** and complain about us damaging the enviroment, yet these hyporcites pollute my air with their cars...,.I dont drive.......
SMOKERS NEED TO FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS. And why is everyone on here slagging smokers calling us losers....they are the idiots.....

It's like i'm under a tree smoking and I still get told to smoke somewhere else..I hate chewing gum but I don't come up to those folks and tell them to go chew somewhere else..?
