I mean besides the obvoius issues. They all have the same agenda. To keep the money and to keep the power. Those is their main concerns.

I don't think it's as much of a sacrifice as you would believe to go from making Millions a year, saving and putting that $$ into the stock market and now living off the interest to making 175k a year (besides a CEO is not a politician and that just goes to prove my point about keeping the money and power to themselves). Most politicians come from $$$$$$$$$$$$. They don't know what its like to be the average joe yet we place so much faith in them to make the right decisions for us, but they don't know the first thing about living a 'normal' life on a 5 figure salary. It's not cynical to understand that there is no difference between to two major political parties and that their main goal is to remain in power. Why do you think it costs so much to run for office, even a local office.

G, my opinion is that Clinton got lucky with a great economy. How much better would he have been, then Bush Jr., if he was in power when the planes hit?

Theoretically yes, but by the time you have gotten to the point that you are running for president or the house or senate I think that you have sold out so much to special interest groups that there is not much difference. Also it's mostly the rich that can afford to run and rich people just don't have much sense of what the average guy is going through. I mean I see people like John Kerry and Hillary Clinton and I think they really mean well, but good Lord they are millionaires and live in million dollar homes and wear designer clothes and LIVE at D.C. cocktails given by the rich and famous and they have no more grip on the life of a blue collar worker in Detroit or Kansas City than George Bush or Newt Gingrich has.

Democrats are more liberal (socialist), and
Republicans are more conservative.
At least for the most part.
I'm reminded of an old saying,
"If you are not liberal until you are 30 years old, you have no heart. If you are not conservative after you are 30, you have no brain."
I don't know who wrote that saying, but that's the way a lot of people are.
Just look at nominations to the United States Supreme Court. Republican presidents nominate conservative judges, and Democrat presidents nominate liberals.
Of course there are exceptions to everything, and politics is no exception to that, so, just listen to both sides and decide if you can believe either side.
And just because a (any) politician said something that sounds good, you must look at what could happen later if that policy is enacted.
I could go on, but you probably already stopped reading anyway.
Just do this, if you are not sure who stands for what, don't vote.

I think from the outside looking in it is easy to point fingers and call politicans crooks. But these people are the best our country has to offer and are taking big pay cuts to perform a civil service. The Goldman Sacs CEO that steped down to become Bushs head of finance went from making 38 Million a year to 175K, is he a lying crook? Do you really think these people work this hard just to screw John Doe and the rest of us average americans. Stop being such a Cynic.

+*+*+EDIT+*+*+*+ Where are you getting your facts that most politicans come from money? There have been plenty of politicans who have come from money that are arguing the same thing you are (Like Ted Kennedy) and there are people who have come from nothing to become politicans that argue against you (Ronald Reagan). My point was is that these people are incredibily talented and could make much more in the private sector then they could in politics. Furthermore, the cost of running a campaign concretes my argument. Politicans spend millions of there own money if they have it, as well as attending fund raisesrs almost every night as well as employing many people just to try and get a job where they can get their views across and do what then can to help people. Any potential could become a lobbiest and make 10x as much as a politican. Look at Jack Abermoff! Face it, there are plenty of easier ways to get rich and get power than politics. I am not saying there are not crooked politicans out there, but I think they are rare. And I don't think anybody runs for office with the intent to corrupt America and the job, they just become twisted or realize they have the ability to do so.

The fact is we live in the most advanced and fair democracy that has ever exisited on the earth, and are one of the few places that have ever been that allows the citizens to choose their leaders. If he elect bad people that is on the heads of the voters most of all, it is our responsibility to elect people with high moral fiber. It is easy to think politicans are sleezy and crooked because politics requires alot of negoitiating and deal making. Moreover, it is popular and books, TVs and movies to portray politicans as criminals. I think that is a disservice to America, and if you do some research on the lives of some of our past great politicans you will see things differently. Your only going to hear about the 1% of the politicans who take bribes or have illegitimate children in the paper.

Those words have no meaning. The fact is, both parties are divided, and niether have a clear and consistent agenda on anything.

The two parties no longer represent the people, because candidates are selected and approved by the parties themselves because they want to ensure loyalty to the party instead of progress and change. Once in power they intend to keep it, and will disavow anyone who confronts them and the lobbyists about the real issues.

The congressional budget is the biggest concentration of wealth in American history, and everyone wants a piece of that pie. Both parties have been reduced to organizations which divide up that pie and pass it on to those who put them in office by spending the campaign donations on them, or advertised for them, etc.

You don't have to be cynical to accept reality. Run against them on charges of corruption and become a one issue compaign. Remove the incumbents from office and give the PEOPLE back thier money.

I'd vote for you, and so would the majority of the country. You just need a loud mouth and a lot of flyers, and a lot of legwork, and a lot of friends.

There are tiny, ugly differences that don't amount to much.

The Democrats say they are the party of "equality" but this means they are the party of teachers, lawyers and government employees. Fortunately for the country, a lot of minority voters are slipping away from them and are becoming independent voters.

The Republicans say they are the party of upright morality and the family, but this means that the party rules committee and credentials committee are controlled by the Christian right and theyh have become the first religious party in US history, which is something truly dangerous. Fortunately, tolerant secular republicans (especially on the west coast) are now independent voters and are suspicious of the growing theocracy.

GENERALLY, both parties produce hacks who posture in the same way about the same things -- the parties have identical ways of proceeding ("motis operandi" or m.o.)...

Some party pros from both parties who are fed up with this are trying to create a party on the internet to derail both parties in 2008 --!-- here's a link: www.unity08.com

Democrats believe deep down that they are entitled to provisions from their government, and believe that is should come out of the pockets of others. Republicans are the ones trying to keep others out of their pockets, while holding a job, and paying their own way.

Democrats believe in individual freedoms, not letting corporations run everything and helping other people.

Republicans believe in moral standards for everyone, allowing corporations to do as they please and that everyone has to acheive their dreams on their own.

My favorite phrase is that while democrats want government out of the bed room, republicans want government out of the board room.
