I have my extra hard drive hooked up as a slave on the same IDE cable as my cd/dvd rom.Is that the way it goes or do i have to put my extra hdd as master and my cd rom as slave? help please.

Its better to link the 2 HDs together in the same IDE channel. The ribbon should have connectors for 2 devices. Make the 1st HD your master and the second the slave. And just keep the CD rom on its own.

Typically you have two IDE channels to choose from. If you put it on the primary channel with your other hard drive (the one you boot from) it should be a slave. If you put it on the secondary channel you could get away with it being master or slave but it's best to make it a slave so there is no confusion over what drive to boot from. Your PC should always try to boot from the master drive on the primary channel before trying to boot from anything else unless you have the boot options set otherwise in the BIOS. Personally I would make it a slave on the primary channel with the other hard drive if you don't already have a second drive on there. I'd only put it on the channel with the CD-ROM if I had no other choice.

Always have your HDD set as primary, but make sure the jumpers on the back of the CD are set to "Cable Select." This will allow faster response times of data from your Hard Drive. The performance of your CD drive won't deminish if it is put into a slave position.

Nope. You have to have both hard drives on the same irc channel. not the one with the cd drive, it just messes things up. set one as master, and your extra one as slave.

You should be able to do this. Just ensure you have the hard drive jumpered as the slave, and the DVD jumpered as the master.

Hope this helps.

I would hook the hd up as a slave to my internal hd, and use the cd as a primary
