I have an 802.11b netgear router and all I can find for network adapters is 802.11g. If I am understanding what I have read the two are compatible but I want to make sure its not b works on g but g doesnt work on b or vice versa

Maybe.
It depends on the manufacturer and the date it was built.
Most well made network adapters will be able to negotiate at either 802.11b or 802.11g. It really depends allot on the manufacturer.

yes you can. Normally all 802.11g adapter support a/b network.
