I have had several pet rats over the last few years, and done a lot of research on them. And unfortunately wild rats are not the same as domesticated rats. They are not as friendly, they are unpredictable, and more often than not they carry disease. Even if it looks healthy most are incubating a disease. They are unhappy in captivity also. Domesticated rats have had desirable traits bread into them, like: They are friendlier, More docile, and don't go crazy living in a cage they have been adapted to accept their surroundings.

you don't. I'm all for pets rats (i have two) but the ones under your house are feral. They're wild and may contain disease. Because they're wild, they'll try to bite you and they can't be happy with people. The best idea is to go to your local pet store and buy a domestic rat. They're great pets.

YOU DON'T!! Do you not know that you can get diseases from wild mice and rats.... Rabies, The Black Death (Bubonic Plague) these are only 2 of the worse ones... Don't risk dying from some horrible illness just because you want a pet rodent!!

You DON'T. Wild rats can carry many diseases. I have two pet rats, but they came from the pet store. They are relatively cheap; go buy one.
