He was shot outside the car. Put in the car, rolled up windows, lock the doors and closed him up in there.

He was shot by someone in either the passenger seat or back seat, who then picked up the shell casing, locked all but one of the doors, put the gun in his holster, and then got out of the car, at which time he locked the last door.
It was winter, and the heater was on, or summer, and the AC was on, which is why the windows were rolled up.

Someone shot him and put him in the damn car..."modern technology" does have the key chain remotes that allow you to lock the car from the outside you know...other than that....who cares....
