I've never picked up the tab. if the guy did't pay i'd walk and if he had no money then i guess he'd be doing the dishes for a while lol. No only messing it depends if you've been with someone for a while then i suppose it does'nt matter who pays. But for the first few dates defaintly the guy should pay.

In the west, its is customary for the man to pay the bill at the restaurant, unless there is prior arrangement to "go dutch", that is both pay the bill together.

Also, in the case of the man paying the bill, the man must make no expectations of any any hanky panky beyond a good night kiss. Unless the lady invites the man into her home for a "cup of coffee", or there ensues a mutual fit of passion.

I am not from US too, but I have been here for about 5 years.
From my experience here in NY, I learned if you allow the guy pay for the dinner, means you both are together, but if the guy is just a friend, and there's nothing more than friendship, the check should be share the same way as it is if the guy was going out with his males friends and the girl was going out with her females friends....I think after all, is believing friendships has no sex differences.

Even since the rise of feminism, women have wanted to do things for themselves and be equal to men. Some men take this that if they want to be the same as men, they can pay the bill like men do.
With me, I'm all for women rights and we should be treated the same as men but there's a double standard. A lot of women want equal rights but still want to be put on pedestal, like me.
When I use to date, my boyfriend would pay the bill; now that I'm engaged, we share the tab.

Normally when I go out with my boyfriend, whoever has most money at the time pays for the meal.
If its my birthday or something then he'll pay. Sometimes I feel like he needs a night out and I like treating him, so I pay.
He does the same thing for me.
I see nothing wrong in paying for someone you care about. I'd feel guilty if he always paid for me.

I'm not sure where u dine, but I was born and raise in the USofA and I don't know any woman who pick up the tab on a regular basis. It is more custom for the man to do so.

I think some do it to show their independance. Maybe she knows the guy is low on cash. She might make more money than him. Or she might feel as though she owes him something. I'm sure some guys are embarrassed while others enjoy it.

Who asked whom out? That person picks up the tab unless other arrangements have been made.
