my computer is very handy. I don't have to go to the computer lab every time i need to use a printer. a refrigerator was handy. And definitely bring a fan. Dorm rooms get very very hot. Also, a desk lamp or clip on lamp is nice, and some sort of shelves. Milk crates work very well. If you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs. There are people coming and going constantly. Halls are almost never empty.

Either a mini-fridge or food that doesn't need to be refrigerated (tuna, peanut butter). Or get used to warm soda like I did :-P You definitely should have a set of good headphones for when you're on the computer or want to listen to music or tune out loud roommates/suite-mates. You probably have an ipod though, those didn't exist ten years ago when I started college :-P Lots of posters or a wall border and poster putty or pushpins. A computer and printer that works. Air freshner if you're sharing a bathroom. A little tv and dvd player and dvds. Don't go crazy on your meal plan. I only had 10 meals a week b/c I didn't have time to go to the cafeteria 3 times a day, and I went home on Sundays. Do a reality check and don't think you have to have 21 full meals a week. Flex points on your meal plan is great. But I don't know what system you're going into. Make friends with people who have the same major as you because when things get tough you guys can help each other out and pull those all-nighters together. I only regret dating the same pushy guy the whole time when I totally wasn't grown up enough and should've been dating different guys to see what other guys were like.

Dorm room, make sure you have a spring water machine, microwave and hand sanitizer. For classes, choose subjects you enjoy and you will get better grades in them. Some subjects might surprise you, I never knew until taking it I was so interested in Anthropology. Do make lifelong friends, do not let any guy push you off track. Education is the end goal, keep that in focus because the rest of your life depends on it. The guys will come and go.

One thing I did regret about college was that I did all my general courses first before I went to do my major ones. If I had to go back I would take half general and half major, since when I got to my last semester in college I had all major courses which were like these capstone classes and labs that sucked up a lot of my time and which made it so that I didn;t really have time to enjoy my last semester in college.

Plastic/washable dishes. Marker to put your name on stuff. Try to take all of your general classes your first semester/year to get them out of the way and get a feel for what college is like. Don't party every night, but make sure you have some fun!

Things you need........organizing drawers/bins, landry bag, iron/board, detergent, towels, sheets, a PDA or other organizer, computer............anything else you need will become obvious and anything that doesn't--you don't need!!
Stay away from drugs, sex, alcohol, and creepy guys!
Don't take more classes than you can handle.

One of the most important things in college you MUST learn is how to schedule your time. 80% of all college dropouts/people who failed out, come from them not being able to manage their time.
There will always be a party and there will always be people knocking on your door or being loud.
REMEMBER: YOUR FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT PRIORITY IS BEING A STUDENT, EVERYTHING ELSE IS SECONDARY!
If you remember that, everything else is gravy.

You may not be into video games right now but you really need to get a xbox or playstation, because if you are one of those types who dosent like to study or do anything else you need to pass the time.
