I have a hamster and up until today he was a healthy. he would eat run on his wheel and in his ball. But today he was acting really unusal. typically when holding him he would fidget and try to walk away or something but today he was moving so slow and even fell asleep on me. I also noticed that hes sleeping in random places. typically it was in his little igloo but now its random places. He's kinda fat too. I just dont want him to die and i dont know what could be wrong.

First, your sure he's a he and not a she that was pregnant when you got it? Just curious on that as it sounds like it's trying to find a comfy place to lay and maybe have babies; thus the reason for his (or her) weight gain. Course that's one theory mind you.
Second, how long have you had your hamster? If you have had him for quite some time ( longer than say a couple of weeks), it could be he's slowing down due to age. Have you noted any graying around the face or coat that's not his normal coloring ( graying or whitening depending on his normal color).
Thirdly, what has he been eating recently? Anything different lately that you didn't feed him before? Could be a change in food has upset his tummy. What's his poopie like? If it's soft/loose looking instead of the pellet kind then it's an upset tummy which would account for the chubbiness of the tummy. I believe Hamsters can get the same intestinal disruption that Rabbits get which causes diarrhea, dehydration, a bloating of the belly due to gas build up and eventually death if not taken care of immediately.

Honestly it would do you well to keep an eye on him tonight and take him to the vet tomorrow to have them check him out. Who knows maybe you will be lucky and HE will turn out to be a SHE about to have babies. *smile*

Worse case scenario it's the intestinal disorder but if caught fast enough with ProBiotics and beneficial bacteria medication the problem should correct itself with in 24 hours at the soonest.

Please let me know if you do find out. I'm currently nursing a 2 wk and 5 day old baby bunny who just developed the intestinal disorder sometime late last night or this morning. Since I have dealt with this issue before I now keep a product called Peter's Rabbit ProBiotic powder on hand as well as a product called Small Animal Bene-Back (Beneficial Bacteria) by Pet-Ag, Inc. You can find it at Petco or Petsmart and it's about I want to say $4 or so. I'm sure if Peter's has a Rabbit ProBiotic they would have one for hamster's and other small animal pets. ( feel free to email me khirra@consolidated.net and let me know how your lil' one is doing.)

Note to Oracle: I think you might have Rock confused with the person who was crying for help about their hamster that sounded like it's back was broken yet refused to listen when we suggested go to vet imediatly. Only other hamster question I saw under Rock's name was about a specific breed and what they ate.

Rock: how long have you had your hammy? Don't think I saw that in your response.

I have had lots of hamsters that did that same thing thats not a good sign there are a few posibiltys none are good he could just be sick or as you fear he might be getting redy to go to hamster heaven but I suspect he might be lonly in that case he needs a female companion someone to help him perk up wait a few days before you get another hamster to keep him company rember animals have fealings of wanting to be with other animals beware if you buy him a friend no other males he will atack them and it could end in death if you get a girl exspect little ones . My hamster is fat as well just dont feed him so much try fresh veges once in a while also.

I don't believe you anymore since this is your 3rd question about your hamster--sorry that you're this needy for attention-will pray for you to find some friend or friend and a better sense of humor. I really hope that you don't have a hamster but if you do that you treat it well, that it still has 2 healthy legs and that all this is some sick way for you to get attention. Have you ever considered counseling for to pick this topic is not normal esp.3 times-people
take note. esp. to get attention or just a cheap laugh to see how many people you can sucker in.

Hamsters only live about 2 years. Is he close to that? If not, go to a veterinarian, there's not much they can do for the little guy but, of course, it's worth a try.
If he's old his organs may be beggining to fail and there's no cure for old age. Sorry, and good luck

He may be getting old. Hamsters and pretty much all rodents natural life cycle is 3 years. Figure every 10 days is a year of their life. You may not have noticed the change at first .

How old is he? He may be getting that way due to older age. If he's not that old, then you need to take him to the vet right away to find out what's wrong. If you love him that much, you'll spend the money to do that.

how old is ur hamster? Could it be getting old and senile? I think he could be dying. Animals love their routines.

give him gatoraid, it will replinish his engery levels.
he needs absolute silnce at nite, no distractions( wheels, clocks, anything to make noise). three days of that and he will be as Right as Dick Chenny.(tehe) but really, try it.
