Neocon refers to "conservatives" who are supportive of a strong centralized, hawkish, socialist government.
This is what we have running our nation today. George Bush is a neocon, as well as Rummy and the rest of the current administration.
How they differ from real conservatives is they spend much more public money, they embrace socialist welfare programs, they support strengthening the powers of the state as opposed to the people, and they are more unilateral in thier global agenda. Rather than wait for international consensus, the neocon will simply defend itself.
I personally disagree with neocons, as I am a real conservative, not a progressive conservative.
By the way, conservative and Republican are completely unrelated. There are socialist Republicans and there are libertarian republicans and there are conservative republicans. Republican in general has no meaning, just as the Democrat Party has no meaning. Howard Dean and Zell Miller are both Democrats, but they are totally opposed.
There is a massive oversimplification of the political spectrum, the media has convinced everyone that there are only two viewpoints, and no middle ground, and only two categories of issues.
The fact is, most people do not understand political science, they only think they do because of the oversimplified and propagandized media. For a better scale, learn about the political compass, and keep in mind even this scale is too simplistic.

It's the "New" "Conservative" movement in America, characterized by Republicans and conservatives who believe the idiologies of Popular "Con"s of our age.
It has an unignorable inferance to the "neonazi" groups in america much of last century.
The term "NeoCon" is usually is used derogatively to make or imply comparisons with other neo and con idiologies, (Nazi, Religious, or any extremist type that will aid the comparison)

Neoconservatives support an ideology outlined by the Project for a New American Century, a conservative thinktank. Basically they promote constantly being at war with countries who cannot defend themselves as a way of stimulating our economy. They are modern day fascists.

a neo-con is a NEW conservative, who probably feels the dems no longer represent him, because he does not fit under the umbrella of special interest groups that dominate the party.
