Well you can't avoid points if you are found guilty. And if you were driving 85 in a 55 then shame on you. But plead NOT GUILTY at any rate.
Or, and this is important here, if this is your first offense then you can plea NO-LO without any points against your license. But you can't plea NO-LO once you plea not guilty. So do the math on this one.............
But I would suggest that once you are IN court ( and do NOT call them on this, it will alert them) that you request for the ticketing officer to provide the court with his calibration forms on what ever device he used to determine the speed of you vehicle? If it was an ESP Machine and it was a LOCAL POLICE department, then he can not use this machine.
At any rate..........the officer must have available those sheets to prove the accuracy of the device. IF he does not have the sheets your case may/can/should be dismissed.
Good luck on this, do some research before court,
and SLOW DOWN.
It is a proven fact that an additional speed gets you to your destination no faster than a few seconds to a couple of minutes given traffic, red lights and stop signs.

Hope this was your first ticket ever! You can't avoid the points unless the judge, for some reason, finds you not guilty and dismisses the charge. But being that your speeding is considered reckless driving, I doubt that you will get off that easy. Just go ahead and plead guilty.
I've tried pleading not guilty (but then again I have several speeding tickets) and I still ended up paying a fine of over $500 and my license got suspended for 60 days.

The only thing you could do is contest it by going to court. The officer that gave you the ticket and clocked you has to be there. So if it was a two man team and only one showed up you get off. Plus, most of the time they won't show up anyway. There are plenty of books on the subject, and you can find them anywhere like Borders. They will tell you how to make it so tough on them like supeoning the Radar Gun, etc. Plus, the worst the can happen is you lose the case and drove 200miles just to pay your ticket. Good Luck!

I sat in on a ruling just the other day, and the judge actually told the guy that if he had pleaded not guilty and then was found guilty later, things would have been much worse for him. She told him that the court respects him more for his honest decision, and they went easier on him.

Guilty, the cop probably had a radar gun and has proof that you were going that speed. Pleaing not guilty would probably raise the fine.

don't know about the points, but depends on the situation, where the cop radared you and also, if you really were speeding, then you are guilty of that. I know in most states if you take a defensless driving course your points are removed

go to court, if it's your first offence they may just fine you a crazy amount of money and then not get any points. the worst that will happen is you'll have to pay what you would have if you had just plead guilty.

Either way your going to get some kind of punishment, but admitting you fouled up by peading guilty, there will be less sever consequences!
