When switched on, the screen will let you choose 5 options to start in a. safe mode, b. safe mode and networking, c. safe mode and ..... d. last known working application and e..... . I have tried all 5 however each time it is followed by a system reboot. Is my system down? What is the next step I can do to restore it without having to send to the shop? Thanks!

1. Get a Windows XP OS CD and place it in the CD drive.
2. Start up the computer
3. There will be a brief moment where the POST screen says... "press any key to boot from the CD"
4. The screen will display setup information, don't worry, it won't erase anything without asking....
5. When you get to the screen about what you want to do, choose..
6. Repair Windows installation
7. You will eventually reach a prompt for Administrator password
8. Try blank, if not kick yourself for not taking it down (There is a way to boot from a floppy and reset the Administrator password, post a question for that if you need)
9. C:\> prompt will show
10. Enter chkdsk /r
11. This will take a while
12. When finished, it will tell you if it repaired anything
13. If it did, reboot
14. Your OS will load

Try inserting your set up disc into the hard drive before it reboots. this will let you into the set up mode then you should be able to get into your system. if all else fails, insert your set up disc and choose reformat. This will completely dump your entire system and reload the original programming that came on your system. Then you will have to reload all of your extras, like Yahoo, etc... Hope this helps.

What Operating system is it? It is probably the hard drive. If the hard drive is bad or the operating system is corrupted then it will give you that prompt because it can't boot to windows
