Certainly not the bunch of oil-money sucking goofs in Washington, D.C. (and I'm talking about both sides of the aisle, for those of you who still believe there's a difference).

Good old ingenuity will do it, and enough people are sick of the status quo that I think it will happen within the next 5 years. I see a lot of people talking about electricity for cars in Y answers--forget it. Batteries too heavy, most electricity still produced using fossil fuels. "Hybrids" are smoke and mirrors--still rely on fossil fuels. My question would be, "Which intelligent people out there are smart enough to buck the system and introduce some new, truly alternative energy sources, not to the hide-bound corporate types and the politicians, but to the average Joes and Janes in this country who would like real options?"

First there needs to be a radical change in our attitude towards using petrol cars. I gues we have been findnig different ways to make it easier for us in the future to use fuel and get rid of the oil dependency. There is research being done with fuel cells, alternate fuel (methane, etc), electric cars and ofcourse cold fusion.

The latest on cold fusion could be read at - http://nigeriaworld.com/articles/2005/mar/271.html

But is cold fusion a reality that could be a practical solution to our energy needs?? Read the above link and u will know what its all about.

We will stop being dependant on oil when we have finished it.. Personally the sooner we finish oil, the sooner we can actually develop our world into a better, greener, cleaner world.. This oil is stopping mankind develop as Power is held by the oil companies, and those that use oil, i.e auto companies etc...
Everyone should buy gas guzzlers and use up all the oil as soon as possible.
Cold fusion... Not really practical at the moment but it will have a place in the fututre.

Dependency on another energy source and cold fusion is not a likely energy source in our lifetime.

A few well-placed tactical nuclear weapons would go a long ways towards ending our dependance on the blood-sucking Arab world.

I just hope we all don't start driving hybrid cars. We could all die of "smug" storms.
