First of all what position are you going to play?
If you are a goal keeper, try putting some weight in your legs and wrists and jumping up and to the sides (as if you were trying to get the ball).
Other positions try control of the ball, doing "the bicycle", changing direction and speed, etc. And also with out the ball try speed and changes in direction. If you have a partner, try dribbling and then try stoping him.

Former Soccer Coach Here, First and Foremost, THE MOST IMPORTANT thing you need to learn IS: Dribbling the ball. Start out walking it passing it between your feet, then start going faster, until you can run with it full speed, maintaining control, and not looking at it. You have to keep you concentration on your opposing team, and your teammates, so you know where you can pass. It seems easy, but it takes a LOT of practice. Next work on passing, then shooting. A GREAT help is " Soccer Secrets & Fitness w/ Mia Hamm." It's not just a girls thing, so don't get caught up on gender. These are champion athletes, and you can learn a TREMENDOUS amount from them. You can pick up the 3 dvd set on eBay for about $5. (i did :-) ) Good luck, and remember, control the ball. AT ALL TIMES, and AT ALL COSTS.

You are going to need to be in good shape to run. I mean track shape, because soccer you are always on the move. Make sure you read up on the basics and practice, practice, paractice. Make sure everyday you are learning something new about the sport and rules. It would be good to find someone who plays for your school and train with them. I know at my school its no joke we are undefeated. And these guys work hard like football hard. So i say work hard and when you go to try out show the coach you got heart. O yeah get a jump rope (don't laugh) it will help with your foot work. In Soccer its all legs so you gotta train your legs hard. Work on dribbling the ball. Get some books from the library on Soccer drills and skills. Watch more soccer games too.

I'd find a speed ladder on the internet and use it every day. It will give you different workouts to do with it, it was great for my foot speed, cordination, and quickness. i'd also look for Box workouts online as well to increase the vertical. Colleges love players who can create on the field and being able to go up and get the ball then be quick enough to beat people will turn some heads.

I would recommend talking to some of the other kids (friends) that play. You could also try talking to the coach or visit a library and check out the sports section for books on soccer. It's a fun sport, I hope you are successful at it and enjoy it.

OMG. I am in the same situation. I learned that soccer needs alot of running. Even in when u are in state of conditioning they make u run.
After that U need to go some agility workout. I have not been there yet. So look for excercise that intense ur aglilty. and ofcourse learn to do tricks, esp. drilling the ball. try to learn two/three tricks per month. get used to the ball. the soccer will start late in Jan. so U have time.
GOOD luck to both of us.

Be in really good shape (RUN A LOT) so that you can handle the first week of tryouts without getting sick or dehydrated.
While you run, also take some time to dribble the ball around and practice shooting. You also might want to practice your position, if you have one.

well it depends on what postition ure palying. but one thing that requires for all the position is running. u have to run a lot to be able to play soccer. u have to know how to dribble and trick people when they are going to come and get the ball from u. if ure playing midfield u have to run back and forth (like basically whereever the soccer ball goes). if ure playing defense then u just stay on ure side of area.
p.s be ready to get hit on ure shins-lol

Begin by practicing important basic skills such as stopping in the air with thigh chest and foot, then practice short passes and move on to long passes, and simply know how to position your foot when you are passing and kicking. Perfecting these will be the key to success.

Best way to prepare for soccer is to find the most boring thing you can think of and focus on that. You'll be ready for soccer in no time...
