Sure there are! Many of the answers above are illegal so don't listen to them.
First place to go to is the artist's website. Sometimes they have a free MP3 or two.
Then head on over to http://music.download.com . Here they have thousands of free and legal MP3s provided by artists. You won't find too many of the big names (there are a few). However, you will find those artists that aren't mainstream (yet). With the wide variety on the site, you'll find something you like.
Edit: some more sites you can check out-
if an artist has a Myspace profile, they may have a free download of a song (or at the very least, a free listen).
Also, Purevolume (www.purevolume.com) is another site for artists to let people download or listen to their songs.
Basically, you just have to look around, and beware of spyware ridden file networks, and illegal downloads.

I generally use torrents because they look to very last more than the different downloading software. Frostwire ought to doubtlessly develop into close down in simple terms as actual as Limewire, via the indisputable fact that is a meant successor to this technique.
