Meaning is what is signified by a sign. What it points to which need not EVER rest on any totalistic or absolute values.

Definition tries to SUBVERT this fundamental aspect to language. And Fails.

One: BEING OR AMOUNTING TO A SINGLE UNIT or individual or entire thing, item or object rather than two or more, a single: one woman, one nation, one piece of cake.

Being: the fact of existing; existence (as oppossed to nonexistence).

or: (used to connect words, phrases, or clauses representing alternatives): books or magazines, to be or not to be.

amount: the sum total of two or more quantities or sums; aggregate.

-ing: a suffix of nouns formed from verbs, expressing the action of the verb or its result, product, material, etc. (the art of building, the new building, cotton wadding)

to: ( used for expressing motion or direction toward a point, person, place or thing approached and reached, as opposed to from): They came to the house.

a: not any particular or certain one of a class or group: a man; a chemical; a house.

single: only one in number; one only; unique; sole: a single example.

unit: a single thing or person.
