y=(4x+7)/3

2006-06-15 16:22:15 · answer #1 · answered by wise guy 1 · 0 0

To solve this kind of equation, first solve one variable (x) in terms of another variable (y). Therefore: y=(7/3)+(4/3)x

Substitute y=(7/3)+(4/3)x into the 4x-3y=-7. You will get 4x-[3(7/3)+3(4/3)x]=-7 So this means 4x-7+4x=-7

Solving x: x=0 and now substitute this into y which means y=7/3

If you solve x in terms of y, the answer will be different.
x= (-7/4)+(3/4)y
Substitute: -7+3y-3y=-7
Answer: y=0, x=-7/4

Using the points you get from both answers, you can plot the graph and you can see all the x and y that can fit into the equation.

x=2 y=5 so 4x=8 and 3y=15

8-15= -7

4x - 3y = -7

You need to substitute a number for one of the variables. For example, X = 1. SO

4(1) -3y = -7
4 - 3y = -7
-3y = -11
y = 11/3 or 3 2/3

Therefore, if X = 1, Y will = 11/3.

-3y = -4x - 7

y = 4/3 x + 7/3
There are many answers to this equation, which form a line on a graph.
(0,7/3)
(1,11/3)
and so on.

You need another equation in order to solve this.

Or, are you supposed to graph this?
If so, put the equation into slope-intercept form y = mx + b
In this case, y = 4/3x + 7/3
then graph

To solve x and y variable problems, you need at least two problems to solve for each of the two variables, so you can't solve it mathematically.
So I guess you're just going to have guess what x and y is, which will yield more answers than just two for x and y.
