Try this in your autoexec file or from the command line:
type:

prompt $_$S "Excellent command or filename"$G

If you need to know which directory you are in, after '$S' put in '$P'.

I resisted windows as long as I could, one of the last bastions of the realm of DOS. I still have to use it a lot on the job. Mostly 5.0 and 6.22, but some 3.3 and 3.2 stuff still around. I have seen anything older in quite a few years.

Because it is a second rate operating system, behind the Macintosh platforms(OS 9 and OS X), but ahead of any Windows operating system. Windows is flawed, DOS is only logical statements. The recent Mac OS is a user-friendly gui over a Unix shell. It's really the best of both worlds.

Because when there is no error, then the command is just executed or the file just opened as it should be, you will notice everything working right when the computer does what it is asked, so you dont need a message.

Be it DOS or UNIX, the general convention is "no news is good news". So everytime DOS does not say anything, just gives you the next command prompt, you can assume it just appreciated the beauty of your previous command.

Good question though.
