The pediatrican told me that my son is doing this because he might be bored, tired or overexcited. David was born at 34 weeks and he is a very happy, active child. For some reasons ( maybe teething) he stopped eating solid foods a week ago and since yestarday he started shaking his head from side to side for at least 10 times. He did it in morning, in the afternoon and in evening ...countless times. If I try to stop him, he stops, but I have no idea why is he doing thist. Please let me know if you had similar experiences, I am terrified.
Thanks everyone

Most importantly your pediatrician isn't concerned so just relax. It does sounds like your son is learning how to shake his head "no". My son also discovered the same thing WAY before he shook his head "yes". As long as his activity level is good, at least consumes his formula/breastmilk & is generally happy then it isn't anything to be concerned about. He'll likely stop doing it soon on his own.

My daughter(who was born at 36 weeks) does that all the time. I think they just like to see there eyes roll around in there head. I always thought it was funny and if the dr isnt worried i wouldnt be either. If this is your first child you will learn in time that everything a child does will worry you you might want to get used to it. It will all work out.

my daughter always did that when i would put her in a chair and i was like "why the hell is she doin that" about a day later after watching her carefully i realised that she was trying to scratch her head and back against the chair cos she must of been sooooo itchy so i scratched it for her but the itch wouldnt go so i went to the doctors office and she told me that she had eczema (i think thats how you spell it ) its when thier skin is real sensitive and needs lots of moisture so she gave me some cream and told me what soaps to use on her and her clothes and it went away and she never did it again and shes also grown out of the eczema hope ive helped

My baby does the same thing and it really freaks me out, but my pediatrician is not concerned either. I don't remember my little girl doing it. Maybe it's a boy thing! He does seem to do it more when I suspect he's teething.

My son is 11 months ago and he recently started to do this too. I think he sees adults doing this and is learning to imitate. We are really tickled by it and he looks so cute doing it. I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. It probably shows that he's learning and observing.

New mom? LOL its more probably like "hey mom look at me...WEEEE" kids do the strangest things...my son use to do that and he quickly grew out of it...if it continues and ur that concerned about it just tell your doc that he's still doing it and ur concerned.... but im sure he's fine.

He has discovered he can do something new, and he likes it. Babies are little wonders. He is just doing something new over and over and over like babies do. He will proabably start rocking back and forth before you know it and toss himself right out on the floor soon enough. Enjoy it!

Don't worry my has been doing it since he was a week old (not kidding), nothing to worry about, he will eventually stop, like mine did.
