If you're into independent music artists, try their websites. A lot of them offer free *LEGAL* MP3s of their songs in order to get interest in their work.

Some of the artists I know who offer download samples on their websites include: Kane ( http://www.kanemusic.com ), Common Rotation (http://www.commonrotation.com - with additional free daily song under the "Union Maid" link), Majandra Delfino (search for her albums on Yahoo for free MP3s), AND Vienna Teng ( http://www.viennateng.com ). There are tons of others out there.

If you just want to sample before you buy, try searching for an artist you like on MySpace. Again, it's mostly independent artists, but indy artists tend to put out less filler crap.

http://www.cdbaby.com will allow you to sample the first 2 minutes of all the songs of any album they offer for sale (I'd recommend Steve Carlson's "A Spot in the Corner" - best $10 ever!)

http://www.emusic.com also offers a free trial - 25 songs in 10 days. The mp3s continue to work after you cancel the service also. If you send an email to a friend to try the service and they register for a free trial, you get extra free songs. IIRC, they get 25 and you get 50! Their download manager program lets you set up to get a whole album or just selected songs, and you can pause or delete selections before they start downloading.

Don't know about media players, but you can download just about anything (including music mp3s) to your computer with SHAREAZA. It's a file sharing software, free download. I've been using it for a week or so with very good results.

shareaza.com - is where to get it.

Bearshare is the best. Download the free version. I've been using it for years. Also Kazaa is ok and winmx. I've never used Limewire but I hear it's good.

i don't understand if it is also conceivable to purchase songs 'loose' that are authentic felony in the US. because if agencies gave songs out for loose and did not "pay" the artist or corporation for the music it really is declared stealing money from the maker(s).
