My fiance had emergency surgery 5 years ago for his appendix. He has had stomach pain and bowel problems since the operation and has been on different medications which have not been working. Recently, via X-ray clamps or staples were discovered. In addition, his scar from the appendix surgery is on the left side which the doctor is telling him is normal. Everyone we know who has had their appendix out has the scar on the left. Coulf this be considered malpractice? Is it normal to leave clips / staples in the body after an appendix surgery? Could the docot be trying to cover up since she is part of the same hospital system? I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

I would definatley go to another doctor part of a different hospital and get a second opinion. This is not only medical malpractice, but medical negligence. After that, I would go and sue.

I don't think so. I had the same thing happen. I've had 7 surgeries for endometriosis, and during a CAT scan, it was noted that I had a clip left in. It was explained to me that sometimes clips are left in, such as when an organ is removed, to seal off the artery, etc. In fact, I'm about 99% sure that the clip that was left in was from the surgery that removed my appendix. However, I'm not a doctor, so I would get a second opinion. Your fiance's pain/bowel problems are probably as a result of adhesions, something I am unfortunately VERY familiar with. This occur a lot with any kind of abdominal surgery.
I hope this helps!

Contact an Attorney emmediatley that specializes in Medical Malpractice. Doctors do not leave these items in a patient.
Most Attorneys will take this kind of case on a Contingiency basis.
( you don't pay unless you WIN!!! ) Good Luck

They are not staples per se. They are clips. I think you do have to have a couple of clips put on where they cut the appendix away from the bowel.

There's no reason to leave clips and such in the body. Sue the surgeon.
