Is it just that ladies take a longer time in there or is the ratio of cubicles for gents vs ladies simply wrong?

generally, having to sit carries many overheads (in terms of time) on it's own. first you've to wipe the seat or line it, the unzip and make sure your skirt or pants doesn't touch the ground, then sit and do the deed.
put it down to women taking extra care to maintain higher standards of hygiene.

Three reasons:
1 ladies have individual stalls which take up more space than urinals. Therefore there are more available potties in the mens rooms.
2. Men unzip, women have to get half naked which takes more time.
3. Women travel to the bathrooms in pairs or packs, men generally go it alone.

It takes longer time for ladies to do their business: take off 1/2 clothes, clean the lift, sit down & do their biz, sanitize, take on clothes, clean hands and chat.
It takes more spaces and rooms in lady restroom, with the same area, there're lot more "facilities" in gents room to do their business, and they're faster, get in and get out.

I don't know. I've taken my 2 year old into the mens room before (gave a yell first) because it was an emergency.

Ladies always go in pairs, we do have to get half way undressed in order to do the simplest thing and we actually wash our hands afterwards.

because the ladies need a loo we have the advantage of standing up plus they need to chat lol

LOL, usually it's because they stand around gabbing, or they've taken an entire group with them to the loo.
