stop listening to commercial radio and support local musicians by attending local shows and purchasing thier cd's etc.

actually you need to voice and complain about the music if you can't stand it. Usually what plays on radio locally is a mix of research done into likes and dislikes of music around the nation and is also what is liked by the area the station is in, hince a rock song might play on the hit music station in one town but not another.

Some of the research firms use ratethemusic.com for popularity on music.

If you are not buying music, it maybe public tastes on a whole have shifted away from yours or you haven't searched for it on the net enough...Somewhere on the internet, they have a musical taste for anybody it seems

I don't know. I wish I had that answer. Its been a weird time in music the last few years. I used to go out almost weekly to buy cds and now I go sometimes months. I miss the music from 5-6 years back. Back when every band was fresh and cool.

Find a good "classic rock" station or a good oldies station, preferably the former.
