You can have fun with this. Check out this website, it literally has hundreds of ideas, sorted alphabetically and categorized by gender, category and which part of the 80's. You will definitely be able to put together an outfit using this as your guide. It was fun to read through all the stupid things I wore as a teenager!

The key to the entire thing will be to wearing your hair as big as possible!!!!

Some of my personal favorites:
Big hair (every girl I dated had it!!!), Parachute pants & leg warmers!

MAC and Smashbox cosmetics has a great line of bright, mettalic shadows. Just create a smoke effect using the shadow, brush, and a little bit of water mixed in. Add a ton of black liner both on top of the lid as well on the bottom. Don't make the lines to clean...smudge them a bit with a q-tip. Bright lipstick and pink blush also completes the 80s look as well as teased hair.

Alot of eye liner, some leg warmers, Reebok's, oh and TONS of those bracelets. spandex tights were in back then too with a really long shirt, be sure in keeping with the theme to use a whole can of aqua net hairspray on your teased up hair. Have a good time.

depends on the look your going for. Valley girl or preppie wear a lot of blush, sparkly eyeshadow and lipgloss and a lot of mascara. Blue or teal eyeliner was so bitchin! I on the otherhand i did the whole new waver thing so think a less threatening marylin manson and big teased crazy hair would be close enough.

Line your eyes with a heavy liner pencil. Make your hair as big as it can get! Spray with lots of heavy duty hairspray. Wear something with big shoulder pads, and wear leggings. Your make-up should be very BOLD... everything in the 80's was about excess!

Definitely lots of make-up. Don't forget the black eyeliner!
Also, back then, it was OK for your face to be darker than your neck and big hair is a must! Maybe you should try to catch "We love the 80's" (or something like that). I believe it's on VH1.

All depends, do you want to go Cindi Lauper or the "Grunge" (I hope I spelled that right) look? Cindi-waaaay over the top. Spiked hair, strange colored hair, dark eye make-up and the chiseled cheeks look.
Grunge-wavy hair, smokey eye make-up with lots of black eyeliner, chiseled cheeks. The "moody, angry" look. Ripped jeans, flannel shirt over a half-top or sports bra type shirt, more than one color of nail polish, hiking boots, BIG hoop earrings or very long dangly ones.
