Who is the best out there that can REALLY sing--not just someone who is popular? I think it's a tie between Mariah and Kelly Clarkson--both are women who can SING IT!!!! What do you think?

MARIAH CAREY of course!There's no other who can make this high,supersonic dolphin's wistle.her singing makes my skin crawl.Kelly clarkson though is a lot gifted

Well Kelly Clarkson had to sing live on TV for a few weeks on American Idol and Mariah Carey has done a few live concert. I'd have to say that they're kind of both tied really.
Mariah Carey would have Kelly album wise because she's been on the circut a lot longer but also Kelly has a lot more publicity and has a lot more forfront with American Idol. I guess it really depends on what you like.
Personally I'm a fan of Mariah Carey. She has an awesome vocal range and has proven that she has the ability to be a long standing vocalist. While Kelly seems to be the only successful American Idol (based on record sells, singles and just overall airplay. I must admit I don't know much about Fanastia since I don't watch American Idol.), I think she might fade out once all the hype is over with American Idol (if it ever fades away.). Mariah has proven she can come back from a lot of things..but when it comes to vocals yeah mariah's got Kelly beat.

Both are very good, but i think Mariah has lost her touch a lil bit... i've seen some of her live performances and they werent to good...kelly clarkson on the other hand...i'd say is better compared to Mariah at this point in time

Of the two you mentioned, I'd pick Kelly Clarkson. I agree with you that Mariah probably can belt it out, but she doesn't do it much, at least in the material I've heard lately.

Probably Mariah Carey. Rachael Lampa is also great but probably unknown to you. Shes a 19 year old Christian singer.

Diana Krall. She has such a sexy, sultry voice very remiiniscent of Billie Holiday. Her genre is mostly jazz and light pop, so most people don't here about her, but she's great!
