By how many chickens?
3 chickens will lay 20 eggs in 10 weeks for instance.
This is the smallest solution in whole chickens and whole eggs.
(The answer is 10 for a chicken and a half or 6 2/3 for one chicken if we just do the math, but since a half a chicken cant lay eggs and no whole chicken can lay a fraction of an egg I think my answer is best.)
WILL YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE SAYING ITS THE SAME AS 1 EGG PER CHICKEN PER WEEK STOP IT!! Its NOT. If a chicken and a half lays an egg in a half in a week and a half, then one chicken lays one egg in a week and a half, 500 chickens lay 500 eggs in a week and a half, 1234 chickens lay 1234 eggs in a week and a half, etc.!!!!

Can a half a chicken lay half an egg? Is this a trick question? How many chickens are laying eggs for 10 weeks?
Basically it takes 1 chicken 1.5 weeks to lay 1 egg. So 1 chicken can lay 6 eggs in 10weeks (and have 1 egg 2/3 formed).

a half chicken can neither lay an egg nor can a half egg be layed. Therefore 6 eggs can be layed by 1 chicken in 10 weeks.

NO, no, no. The riddle is:
If a hen and a half can lay an egg and a half in a day and a half, how many eggs can six hens lay in seven days?
Your missing A VERY BIG PART of your question.
...how many eggs can X hens lay in 10 weeks?
Since this is an incomplete equation, ther is no answer.

how does half a chicken lay an egg?
but if we take it on a numerical basis (RATHER than common sense) we are saying that we get one egg per chicken per week
so in ten weeks we will get 10 eggs

1.5 chicken lays 1.5 eggs in 1.5 weeks.
So 1 chicken lays 1 egg in 1 week.
The result is 10 eggs will be layed by 1 chicken in 10 weeks

In 1.5 weeks, 1.5 eggs are laid. There are six 1.5 weeks per ten weeks, so 1.5 chickens would lay six eggs in that time.
