First off you gotta check to see what kind of ports you have, ie. PCI, AGP or PCI-express. The card should be at least a 256MB card. You will need more than just a graphics card to play high end games though, you should have a good processor and enough RAM memory too. For high end gaming why don't you build yourself a computer from www.ibuypower.com.

You need to make sure you pick a graphics card that is compatible with your computer. What's the manufacturer of your computer? Does it have an AGP slot? Does it have PCI-Express (unless it is newer, probably not). How much money are you willing to spend?
A high-end graphics card can easily be the most expensive part of your computer. Some other things you should consider are your processor speed and more importantly, system RAM.
In some cases (such as mine), upgrading a video card is pretty much pointless because my computer is so outdated that it would bottleneck the performance of the graphics card.
If you need help deciding after that, drop me a line.

A great video card for gaming is the nVidia GeForce FX 5600 AGP 8x with 256MB of Video RAM, I use it and I haven't found a game I can't run yet and best of all, I bought it for less than $100.

Yes, go for the agp one with at least 256 mb of ram. if you have a pci express slot, go for that. pci express is even faster than agp. Don't get ripped off. At least when you buy a 256 mb card, you won't have to upgrade for any game for a long time!
