You can either sweep them up with some paper towel or use a small vacuum cleaner. Whichever you find easier. After that, I'd recommend you disinfect the area with either bleach or ethanol (rubbing alcohol), but maybe that's just cause I work in a science lab...
Anitbacterial soap is kind of a joke, but I assure you that either bleach or ethanol will get rid of any living cells in the area, definitely including whatever bacteria are in the dropping (and since rodents carry various diseases, these are good to get rid of). Really, either one is effective enough that we use it sterlize things in bio labs. Bleach has an unfortunate tendency to turn some things white though (although it's fine on the black counters in the lab), so depending on the surface you might want to go for ethanol. On the other hand, ethanol evaporates quickly, so if it's a surface that won't be damaged by bleach, it's easier to clean with.
P.S. The people who are telling you a cat will keep mice out have probably never had a cat. All three of my cats actually carry live rodents into the house and then release them. And rodents aren't naturally afraid of the smell of cats or anything like that.

Hot water with Lysol cleaner. Then... caulk the holes where the rodents are coming in with a clear adheisve caulking. Keep the area clean and free from any food. If need be, add some traps too!!
Good luck!!

never vacuum or brush dried dropping, always wet them with a strong bleach water before wiping them up. use a disposable wipe or rags that you can toss in the trash after using. use rubber gloves and dust mask when working around rodent droppings. the dried dropping could contain the Hep-pa Virus a dangerous virus the can become air borne when vacuumed or dry sweep ed thus allowing you and other to breath in this dust and infect you with virus. You need to control any rodent problem you are experiencing by sealing off entries and trapping. always use disinfectant when cleaning up after removal of droppings or dead rodents.
