People get married because they want to create a life together that is better than their single life. Not to mention the kids, the tax breaks, the shared benefits (like health insurance, Social Security, etc.), the lack of people asking them why they are still single, and of course sex.
The purpose of getting married is to solemnize and legalize the union you have or wish to have with each other. It is making a commitment to work as a team to accomplish things you cannot accomplish alone.
If you're thinking of tying the knot, you should seriously consider getting some relationship advice from a professional therapist/counsellor - someone who can discuss with you in much greater detail the complex issues that cannot be delved into in this space.

To stay committed and true till death do you part. To be a united front for your children and family! To do it God's way and live right! Spending the rest of your life together with that special someone. Companionship:) Being united in heart sould and mind with someone not only physically but emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Giving your kids a solid foundation to live on and leaving a legacy of morality and trust and committment and showing them how to live and love properly so when they grow up they carry on that legacy! Having someone there at night next to your side and falling in love more and more and more every day... You dont have to go it alone if you have the right spouse that God has blessed you with! Sharing a last name and your sons will carry on that name to future generations to come!

To be commited to another person, and to share their lives with one another. To start a family with another person. Many people get married because even today having kids before marriage is frowned upon. There's also the legal benefits, but you can get those without being married. I don't think marriage is all that great.

Insurance, family name, you get his stuff when he dies ( other wise it goes to his family and that includes the house that you helped pay for ). The law is set up to help couples that are married.

when you're married that is a sacred bond between you and your partner, and it's not supposed to be broken, by divorce, separation, or any nonsense, so when people get married it is suppose to be forever.
