I have a jade bangle bought in Malaysia in a jewellery shop. It was hard to put on because it needs to be very tight not to slip out of your wrist.
I have had it for 1 and 1/2year on my wrist and it has not broken even though I have accidentally hit it really hard a few times on hard surfaces. I can tell you it is real. Real jade is very strong and beautiful in the sunlight. You can see through it. It is a beautiful kind of stone. After all this time it has no scratches on it and is still very smooth. I didn't realise what I bought then would fascinate me so much. It is truly a beautiful piece of jewellery and it looks smashing on a tanned skin in direct sunlight. I love Jade!!

Only jadeite and nephrite are usually considered as real jades. Jadeite has a density of 3.32 - 3.33 while that of nephrite is 2.98 - 3.10 with an average of 3.04 It is generally easy to tell jadeite by performing a hardness test but it is extremely difficult to tell nephrite by performing the hardness test alone. Therefore in order to distinguish items made of real jade from that made of other stones, you have to performed a density test. Dinsitues are jadeite: 3.20-3.33; nephrite - 2.98 - 3.33
