in japan, an apprentice geisha starts her training at about 5-7 years old. the girls parents sometimes sold the girl to the geisha house. the girl didn't become a geisha until about 20 years old and had to pay back the money the geisha house spent on her training, which could take years to pay off. there are less then a 1000 true geishas in japan now, its a dying occupation

Traditionally, daughters of Geisha start their Geisha traning at the age of 3 years and 3 months. Most start training at 9-11 years of age. They train for a few years then start apprenticeship at 15-20 years old.

Girls can begin their studies of becoming Geisha as young as 6 years old. What country are you talking about? The National Geographic Channel recently had a good show about it.

Yes...at my house. NO I am JUST KIDDING relax. If I remeber my history, these girls were typically very young. I do not think the practice is entirely endorsed there anymore. It may happen, but more underground.
