There are 300,000,000 people in this country, a goodly portion of which do not own a flag but will not burn somebody elses. The majority of those Amwerican who do own a flag will not burn their flag. Therefore, this is a 20 in 300,000,000 issue of effect.
Like the earlier poster noted correctly, this is a non-issue. Flag burning has as much relevance to real issues as what finger to use to pick your nose. It is a obvious diversion, a sleight of hand, meant to arouse emotion and distract from what is important. It hardly merits prime time TV coverage and certain not legislative addressment.
When we have a steady energy supply, no trade deficit, no poverty, not immigration issues, the situation in Iraq is settled, etc., etc., etc., then we will be in a position to address this spectrum right to left propagana campaign.

I say, let them..... but they do it at their own risk. If a veteran wants to slap the bejesus out of the flag burner, we won't stop him.
Burning a flag can only have emotional effect if it is done in the heat of the moment, out of sincere outrage. Have you ever seen these televised flag burnings? They are always miserable little staged attempts where a couple bumbling fools always come close to burning themselves.
They never think two seconds ahead. They never make any provision to keep the burning flag on display. They just have to drop it on the ground so they don't burn their hands.
Very anti-climatic. Silly, pointless, and pathetic.

This is such a non-issue. I thought that it was all figured out already back in the 70's. Why is it being brought up now?
I don't know of anyone making a big deal about burning a flag.

those people, besides because the Koran burning minister, were both nicely interior of their rights as US voters. And it replaced into no longer the authorities that stopped the Koran burning minister. i in my opinion discover offense when I see people donning US flag outfits (area 8d reads, "The flag could under no circumstances be used as donning garb.") , or politicians utilising US flag backgrounds of their commercials, or vehicle sellers (The flag could under no circumstances be used for any promoting purpose. it received't be embroidered, printed or in the different case inspired on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, bins, or some thing meant to be discarded after momentary use. promoting indications could no longer be connected to the staff or halyard.)

NO--it is a government established symbol of the country and defacing, burning, defiling, destroying should have a misdemeanor with a fine penalty. There are many ways to express dissatisfaction with your government without such a radical act. If anyone dislikes so much that he /she totally disrespects well free to leave.

yes. to burn a flag means that something is going on that needs a firey statement....like the loss of freedom........freedom of protest, freedom of speech, freedom of expression. i'm not saying to burn a flag if you get a speeding ticket....you probably deserved the ticket. but this is america, and if someone like alito gets appointed to our supreme court so bush can have something positive to say during his state of the disunion speech, well then thats flag burning worthy.

NO NO NO NO What are you people thinking??? Our flag is a great symbol of our freedom. You bunch of crazy liberals! I would give anything to make you realize the extremes to which you have pushed your freedoms. Apparently you have no American Pride left. Please, why don't you all go to Mexico if you don't love your country any more than that! You all make me sick!

Every citizen has the right to dispose of it properly and with respect. No one has the right to desecrate it. Too many people have died for you freedom of expression to dishoner them by such an onerous deed.

Yes, it can be taken as a form of symbolic speech. As far as I know we still have the freedom of speech, otherwise i would've been put to death a long time ago.
