Problems with my Internet Explorer Home Page setting. It will not stay on the home page I set it to. Whenever I close Internet Explorer the home page will change to about:blank? Is there a virus causing this or something and if so how can I remove it? Tried scanning several times with McAfee and to no avail.

you have a browser hijacker, a form of adware, download adaware from download.com and clean your computer, it would not hurt to get spybot from the same place and use it also, they are both free

I know that some of the answer mentioned that spyware is the problem, but i don't think that is the case. When a browser is hijacked, the offending agent usually directs your browser to a porn site, an ad laden website, a website where a Trojan can be download or any other malicious website. Changing your homepage to about:blank is too innocuous. I suspect that you have a security application that blocks changes to your homepage. For example, Spybot Search & Destroy, a very popular anti-spware application, has a feature to lock your browser homepage and default search page. Many other anti-malware, including antivirus suites (eg. Panda), have tools to lock your homepage. I suggest you go through your security applications and look for a setting that locks or restores your homepage.

There is virus that can keep changing your homepage so make sure you are running a good virus protection. Spybot and Superantispyware (I found this one extremely good) are both great free programs. Another possible cause could be that you have downloaded a program, game or update that has changed your homepage to the one that supports that program (because you may have failed to uncheck the new homepage box when you were installing it) Peta G

About:blank is the nastiest, hardest to remove malware application ever. Most scans don't recognize it at all. It is modular, downloading a piece here and a piece there. It can actually re-write your BIOS! I am still trying to figure how to stop it from re-installing when I wipe and re-load my system. The big problem with it is that no-one understands it completely so you find all types of different advice. Some people think that they know what to do and thier advice helps somewhat, Here is some of that advice...

Your computer has been infected with spyware. I would just run a free spyware removal tool. My personal recommendation would be Spybot. It's usually an easy fix.

this is a serious problem// some people have solved it by installing and running "spybot search and destroy" a free program
another free one that has worked for this is "cws" witch stands for the type of adware this thing is// cool web search// it has MANY variants!!!! "SPYWARE DOCTOR" searches and removes over 1,400 variants of this type of adware, but it is not free// also "ADWARE SPY" searches for and removes many of these variants and is not free//
some say the only way to rid your com of this problem is a complete recovery// otherwise it is truly a problem for the pro// and i"m not claiming to be a pro// my friend had this happen to his com and he just did a complete system recovery and fixed it
