The answer is zero. All that is stated is that 2 apples were taken away from three apples. There is no mention that you had the 3 apples and someone took 2 or that you took the 2 apples from a pile of 3. Since I don't currently have any here, the answer is zero.

Possibly poorly worded situation here.

You have in your immediate possession 2 apples - the 2 you took away from the set of three, but since there is also a single apple sitting alone which is also in your presence technically assuming if you owned all 3 apples you still have 3 apples.

Thus, the answer is really 3 apples but they aren't grouped together anymore.

There are 2 'groups' of apples:

2 in your immediate possession and 1 sitting alone, but you still have 3.

Grrr.

Since I couldn't add a new answer I edited my post to include this answer :

The real answer here is that this dude needs to learn better English.

What is the meaning of this sentence, "Two apples take away from three apples"

Can an apple take anther apple? If so two apples have taken away three apples. Now the first two apples have with them three apples.

How many do you have?

Do you mean apple or anything else?

It should read "Take away two apples from three apples. How many do you have?" Then I'd answer "Two" and feel oh so smart.
However your wording is vague; who is doing the taking away? You or me?

that's no brainer.....for adult adult males its 3 (because of the fact of adams apple or if the guy have been given a intercourse transplant) and for women its 2. you're taking 2 apples away and you have 2 (no longer counting adams apple)
