The only "touring motorcycle" is the HD advertised as such -- it's only competition is the Gold Wing, but it can hardly be considered a "motorcycle" by anyone; it just isn't like a "motorcycle" by anyones standards... under any conditions.
The BMW 1200 is a small bike with a big engine and some bags ill attached with straps and screws that are too small... it is quiet.
The Wing is my choce -- but I like to ride 'em more than wrench 'em anymore... but the HD is the only one that is actually a "motorcycle" ...and that's good why??? and how??? To me "touring" negates the need for the "motorcycle" preocupation while "touring". ...and "she" will pick the Wing for comfort.
My HD's are collecting dust...quietly. The BMW would be the quietest when running.

Any year Goldwing after 1982 would be quiet, but the 1800 is clearly the best if you can afford it. I have owned both a Goldwing and a Harley-Davidson. I prefer the Harley for the kind of riding that I do, but the Goldwing seems to be the most quiet of the touring motorcycles.
