My friend wants to send her dental xrays overseas by email, because she does not want to risk losing them if sent by snail mail. Film scanners are expensive, though. Is there a service similar to Kinko's which can digitize your x-rays as a walk-in service?

ask the provider (place where the xrays were taken) if they can make copies-
If they are for Medical use it is free (if they charge i would question why)
- a duplicate film can be made and sent snail mail
-a CD can be burned with the information and software to open and view it (may cost small fee)
- Digital images even with in the US are hard to share due to the varient software programs used for viewing xrays- as many feel they are an image that can be copied and sent- but that is NOT helpful to the person reading it on the other end-
sometimes and image needs to be manipulated or looked at slightly different than how it appears on a screen with white background- IT is much better to send a copy, take a copy and leave the originals with the provider

I am sure it can be done but using a scanner is going to effect the image. I could be wrong but I think the scan will only be a picture of the xray and not an xray which could be seen as such. If that makes sense. Without a light source, the xray image will be obscured. But who knows what Kinko's can do these days.

I am assuming these images are plain x-ray and not digital to begin with. If they were digital the doctor could load it onto a CD. If they are regular xray, I am sure the doctor could make a duplicate set of films from the negatives if they got lost. The doctor may even have the capability of uploading his negatives to CD.

you could keep rings in for all scans apart from an MRI test. Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Emphasis on the 'magnetic'. this may pull any metal out of your body straight away so wonderful to get rid of all metals earlier to getting into the room!
