How do you hook up a potentiometer?

1 wire needs to be connected to the center tap, and the other to either side.

if you have 4 wires then its probably a double tap. You will need the schematic drawing for your particular type. I would do a search on google for a 4 wire potentiometer. The schematics will explain how to hook yours up.

It depends on how many wires it has. If there are just two cut a single line and insert it in the middle.
