I don't have anything to work with besides his name and birth and death dates, obviously. I have no idea where to start with a design so either I or a tattoo artist could make something up.

I'm in the same situation as you. My dad died when I was 8, I'm now 15, and I'm aloud to get a tattoo this coming December. And I want it as a memorial to my dad. For me I was thinking about a "steal your face" which is a symbol of the Grateful Dead. (A band my dad was into) Or maybe a "Dancing Teddy Bear" also a Grateful Dead symbol. And also adding the date of birth and death.

Try to think of what your dad was into. Any certain bands or musicians? How about the time you two spent together? Any specific memories? boating, camping, shopping, concerts? And if you cant think of anything you could take in a photo and the tattoo artists can probably make it into a tattoo design. Something like a pic of you and your dad or just your dad, or whatever.

First of all, sorry for your loses. It must have been so hard for you and I'm glad you've found a way to commemorate them. I think that if there were any special songs that you three liked you should get a meaningful lyric tattooed. I think that would be a great way to memorialize the time you shared.

My best friend got a picture on his upper arm of his father with birth and death dates with his name....if youdon't have a picture, tattoo artists are usually pretty approachable when it comes to ideas and fresh sketches based on what you'd like.....

You said you don't have anything to work with - does this mean you didnt know him when he was alive? If you did know him, what about a nickname he had for you? Do you know anything about his favourite place or hobby that you could work with? Was he proud of his nationality - if so maybe a flag or that countrys coat of arms?
