This question has gone six days without an answer. Many people use treated lumber (6" x 6" material minimum) for dock pilings and or bank pilings. I have also seen old telephone poles used. Either one will last a reasonable amount of time, but both will eventually rot from the inside out. The chemical preservative penetrates the wood in a pressure chamber and there will be more preservative in the outside of the timber than in the center. Therefore the rot from the inside out.

There is special piling timber that will withstand rot for a long time. It is used in commercial applications and is very expensive.

Check for availability with the largest lumber yard in your area. They will be able to special order anything you can afford.

Good luck with your project.
