according to sigmund freud, everyone is born bisexual. a person may (or may not) have masculine or feminine tenancies, but these are activated (or not) by how xe experiences the world during crucial childhood development.

this is, of course just a theory; nobody really knows why we are all attracted to what or whom we are attracted. most of human society supports the "concept" of heterosexuality, so its not surprising that some people don't realize that they are attracted to the same sex right away- or that this attraction often comes as a shock to them and their family/acquaintances.

the term lesbian has been applied to homosexual women with reference to the girls' school of saffos on the greek island of lesbos.
in other words... this is girls club hon ;) no boys allowed.

Your "boyfriend is a lesbian"?

When I was a boy, I had friends that were mostly boys, the girls were simply too strange. In puberty, I grew to like girls and liked them differently than I liked my male friends. But there were boys who liked boys in the same way that I began to like girls. They were constantly looking for opportunities to tell other boys that they were that way too. When I looked at girls who prefer girls, usually it was with some sad story of males doing things, expecting things, wanting things, from them. Lesbians often appear to be lesbians in rejection of men. These incidences were common enough for me to see a pattern and connect these dots, so there surely are those that do not fit in this picture I have developed, but it is common enough not to ignore. Male homosexuals were no uncommonly badgered and recruited at vulnerable moments of confusion. Female homosexuals were not uncommonly driven to it by disgust with men.

Some friends were discussing a man we knew of that underwent a sex change. One said maybe that was to legitimize his homosexuality. I said if I became a woman, it would make me one--I would be a lesbian. That would be a lesbian who would not fit into the above scheme. But then it wouldn't likely be happening to me unless I had an accident like a friend of mine where a load of lumber shifted and ripped off his male part. If I couldn't be a stallion, make me a mare, because I'd be frustrated out of my gourd as a gelding.

Homosexuality develops just as heterosexuality does; through hormones and puberty. A lot of people, when they're kids, have that "ewwwww boys/girls have COOTIES" mentality, but then when they grow older, they show interest in the opposite sex. Same goes with homosexuality, except that they show interest in the same sex.

Also, your boyfriend is not a lesbian.

Your showing your ignorance. It was not developed, it has always been around. Check your history. Read a book about people in the past or educate yourself from talking to people who study such things.

Most people also start thinking about sexaul things around the teenage years, duh.

Your boyfriend is transgender. Ok, but what does that have to do with the question? Or did you mix up your labels?
