The mormon church no longer promotes or tolerates polygamy or bigamy. The bigger question is do YOU want to join the church? You shouldn't join because someone else wants you to. It is a decision you should think long and hard about before making an informed decision. I am a former member, so if you need someone to talk to or have anymore questions feel free to IM me. Bigamy was outlawed over 100 years ago.

Mormon marriage practices are the same as everyone else's marriage practices. The primary difference is that Mormons believe in "celestial marriage" and have a ceremony to sanctify that "celestial marriage." But you would not qualify for that because both parties must be Mormons in good standing.

Otherwise, Mormon marriages are the same as a Baptist marriage, atheist marriage or any other kind of civil marriage.

Additional:

Any Mormon who practices polygamy is excommunicated from the church and cannot be called "Mormon." Cults that practice polygamy are not Mormons.

No it is not legal in the US for Mormons, or any religion to have multiple wives. Just because it is illegal does not mean that doesn't happen. Drugs are illegal too.

There was a documentary on I think on Dateline that covered Mormons still practicing multiple wives.

Some radical Mormons still practice that even though it is against the law. The more common churches do not practice that as they are law biding citizens.

Yes, actually Anderson Cooper on CNN recently did a report on bigamy in the US. It, apparently, is alive and well - even though illegal. I would think twice before joining such a group. They seem cult-ish.
